RULES FOR 1st, 2nd and 3rd GRADES - BOYS AND GIRLS

·   Equal playing time for all kids.  Every player should play at least 2 quarters.

·   8.5’ basket with 28.5” ball for grades 1st and 2nd, 3rd grade boys and girls will play on 9' baskets.

·   Score will be kept on the scoreboard and at the table; the 15 point fast break rule will be enforced.

·   7 minute quarters:

o   Official timeout will be at the midway point of every quarter.

o   Clock runs continuously, except for an injury, official timeout, or free throws in the 2nd half.

·   Jump ball to start the game, all other quarters will alternate possession.

·   Substitutions are only allowed at the start of a quarter or during an official timeout.

o   Teams will meet at ½ court to start every quarter to match up players as evenly as possible and disburse wristbands.

o   To notify the opposing coach of all new players and wristband changes, all new players and any player who changes the color of their wristband must begin play at ½ court to allow the opposing coach and players to see what new players and wristband changes have occurred.

o   NO wristband changes are allowed to create skill mismatches.

·   NO pressing in the backcourt; defenders can pick up the offense at ¾ court.

·   Fast breaks are allowed as long as your team is not ahead by 15 or more points.

·   5-second lane violation.

·   On throw-ins, defenders must provide the player passing the ball in a 5’ cushion.

·   Over and back at half court will be called; if habitual.

·   Traveling and double dribble will be called; if habitual.

·   All players MUST play man-to-man defense; NO double teaming is allowed anywhere on the court for K-2nd grade.

·   At week 5 for 3rd grade boys and girls, they will no longer wear wristbands.  Man on man defense play is still enforced.  Double team only allowed in the lane.

·   NO ZONE DEFENSE!

·   Steals and blocked shots are allowed, if not a foul AND ONLY against the player on the other team with the same colored wristband.

o   THIS RULE WILL BE LOOKED FOR AND ENFORCED!!

·   If a pick is made for the ball handler bringing the ball up the court, at or above the free-throw line, the ball handler MUST make one pass before shooting the ball (one pass rule; after pick).

o   THIS RULE WILL BE LOOKED FOR AND ENFORCED!!

·   Shooting fouls during the 2nd

o   2nd half of games will result in two (2) free throws from a distance of approximately 12’; with a stopped clock.  Shooting fouls during the first half of play will result in a side-out possession.
